Types of Hauntings
Intelligent or Interactive Ghost: This type of ghost has a purpose when they haunt. They tend to haunt places, people, or objects. This type of ghost is the spirit of a deceased human being. They may be stuck here (earthbound) for reasons as tragic sudden death, fear of moving on, guilt, or unfinished business. These human spirits are the same as they where in life, so they may be good or bad, just as any person. They may try to get your attention. They may be confused with limited reasoning, or obsessed with one task or person.
Residual Hauntings or Cinema Of Time Hauntings: A residual haunting is a playback of a past event. The apparitions involved are not spirits. They are a metaphysical playback of a historic or tragic event. The event unfolds in front of you and there is no interaction between you and the ghost. They go through the motions of the event that occurred in the past. This event has been imprinted on the area's electromagnetic field or building and is replayed back later when the conditions are right.
Poltergeist or Recurring Spontaneous Psychokinesis: A poltergeist is a form of Recurring Spontaneous Psychokinesis of which manifests with characteristics such as strange noises, moving objects, and abnormal odors. It slams doors, opens doors, and can be just down right annoying not to mention very frightening. The word poltergeist is derived from the German word that means "noisy ghost." Most cases revolve around a single individual, otherwise known as an "agent." The agent is usually an emotional female child or teenager, but can be anyone of any sex or age. The agent may not even be aware that they are causing the poltergeist.
Orbs: The Orb is the basic energy pattern of the spirit world and they are very common. Ghostly orbs are the most photographed anomalies caught on film. They can be transparent or be fairly solid in form.
Ectoplasmic Mist or Ecto-Mist:
Ecto-mist is a term used for the swirling or fog-like activity that appears on film and can be seen sometimes with the naked eye. This form of spirit energy appears either as a white vapor or cloud-like mist.
Apparitions: An apparition is the supernatural manifestation of the spirit of a deceased person or even animal. This is the classic ghost every ghost hunter dreams of seeing or catching on film. Apparitions are visual experiences. All throughout history, people have seen this type of ghost. Despite research efforts, there is still very little known about apparitions. They are the most compelling part of paranormal research. The one thing that is known is there are no two exactly alike.
Odors & Smells: Often, when people experience ghost, they will report smells. Sometimes it can be the smell of perfume or maybe tobacco. Other times, it could be a fowl smell or a smell of decay. Paranormal researchers are not sure how this type of manifestation works, but it has been documented thousands of times, so it does happen.
Physical Contact: One of the most unnerving things that can happen to anyone is to have a ghost physically touch you or even assault you. This can be a very exciting or traumatic event. In order for a ghost to do this, it must use a lot of energy. Therefore, it does not happen often, but when it does happen, there is usually physical evidence to back this up.
Unexplained Sounds: This is when you hear sounds that you cannot account for. Voices, knocks, bangs, scratching, foot steps or any such sound. No matter how hard you try you cannot find the source.
Cold Spots: The most common manifestation is a cold spot. A cold spot is an unexplainable temperature drop in a small confined area. The room temperature could be a balmy 80 degrees fahrenheit, and you could encounter a two feet area in the middle of the room that is 66 degreesfahrenheit. The ghost uses the energy from that area and in return, it produces a cold spot.
Helpful Tips for Paranormal Research:
1. Always say a prayer of protection before and after an investigation. You don't want those pesky ghosts going home with you.
2. Make sure all of your equipment is fully charged and that you have extra batteries available. Ghost have the ability to drain fully charged equipment.
3. No horse play! A serious and conscientious investigator gets good results.
4. Larger groups should split into smaller teams of two or four people.
5. If you are scientifically minded, and I hope that you are, take along a notebook to record notes.
6. Do not show fear. A gracious ghost will not come around if they sense you are fearful. Howerver, fear can draw a mischievous or mean ghost, having it feed on that fear.
7. Let the ghost know what you are doing and why you are there. Talk to them. You may be surprised by getting better results.
8. When using a 35 mm Camera use 400 or 800 speed film.
9. Make sure you note in your log any lights or reflective surface in the area, so when you view your photos, you will not mistake a false glow or light as a ghost.
10. NO SMOKING at any investigation location. This can appear like ecto-mist in a photo.
11. Watch for dust or dirt being stirred up in the area that you are photographing. This can give false ghostly pictures like dust orbs.
12. In cold weather, hold your breath when taking a picture, so that you donot produce a false ecto-mist with your breath.
13. Always wear close toe shoes.
